A congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA)

Pastor Jess and Pastor Trey have accepted our Letters of Call!

Greetings First Lutheran Family!

On Sunday, August 1, we held a special congregational meeting to vote on calling Pastors Jess and Trey Daum as Senior and Associate Pastors. Both votes were favorable, with 83% voting to call Pastor Jess as Senior Pastor and 89% voting to call Pastor Trey as Associate Pastor. The Letters of Call and supporting documentation were sent to the SD Synod office, and we are happy to announce that both Pastor Jess and Pastor Trey have accepted our Letters of Call. We are beyond excited to have Pastors Jess and Trey join us at First Lutheran! They will bring vibrant ideas and new perspectives. Their first day in the office will be September 27, and their first Sunday with us will be October 3.

Thank you for your continued prayers for our congregation during this time. We ask that you keep Pastor Jess, Pastor Trey, and their family in your prayers as they button up their current calls and make the move to South Dakota. Please also keep Pastor Dave in your prayers as he finishes his time with us. And continue to keep our congregation in your prayers as we transition into a new chapter at First Lutheran.

Pastors Jess and Trey also have a note for us:
Hello Friends in Christ, we are honored and excited to accept the calls you've extended to us to serve as your pastors. We face the days ahead with many emotions and a long to-do list. In the whirlwind of transition, we trust that God is with us and will guide us all into the time ahead. We look forward to calling Brookings home. We await getting to know each of you, hearing how God is active in your lives, and writing the next chapter of our faith stories together. We'd be grateful if you'd pray for our family, including Ruby who will begin first grade and Calvin and August who are 4 years old, as we transition into this new call with you. We will be praying for you as you navigate the weeks ahead.  Meanwhile, "be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord" (Psalm 31:24).

In Christ's love,
Pastor Jess and Pastor Trey Daum
