New to First Lutheran?

If you're looking for a place to go this Christmas, we would be honored to welcome you to First Lutheran. Here are a few things you might want to know:

  • Am I welcome at First Lutheran? Yes! We believe the Good News of Jesus is for all. We hope that you will be inspired, warmed, welcomed, and glad that you came. You are welcome at First Lutheran!
  • What should I know about visiting First Lutheran? Our church is located here. When you drive up, you'll see our landmark mosaic of Jesus with arms raised in praise to God and in welcome to those arriving. Head to the entrance to the left of the mosaic, and you'll find plenty of parking near our Mission CoffeeHouse (MCH) doors and Office doors. There are several close parking spaces by the sanctuary or MCH for those who need a shorter walk. Once you've parked head to any entrance where you'll be warmly welcomed and shown the way to the worship space.  The greeters will be happy to help answer any questions you might have. As you enter, you'll be offered a bulletin to guide you through the service. There are activities for families to pick up for younger children to use during worship. Feel free to pick up a free devotional, introduce yourself to someone new, or simply prepare yourself to encounter the story of Christmas.
  • What should I know about online worship? Visit our facebook page or website to attend any worship service live, or at a later time convenient for you. We love to know if you're joining us! Share a comment to let us greet you.
  • What are worship services like? Each of our Christmas services (and most worship services at FLC) are about 60 minutes long. They are filled with music, prayers, candles, readings, and blessings for all. We invite people to sing, speak, stand, and sit some, but we know not everyone is able or up for participating like that. You may participate as you're able or comfortable
  • Is there a dress code? Absolutely not! We want you to be comfortable and we welcome you however you're dressed.
  • What about my children? Everyone of any age is welcome and valued in worship. Each service includes a special message just for kids who are invited to come up front during the service.  We understand that children may squirm, or become noisy,  just as God made them.  If your child would like a wiggle-break, you're free to step out as you see fit. Young children (under 3yrs) are welcome in worship, or may attend a staffed nursery.
  • What about Communion? At First Lutheran, we celebrate Holy Communion frequently and we take the sacrament seriously. Therefore we  insist that it is shared with all who want to receive it. That includes those who are visiting, regular attenders, young and old, certain and doubtful and, to be clear, it includes you and your family. You'll hear instructions in the church service about how to participate. Visiting with a pastor is not required, but if you would like to speak with one of our pastors before worship, feel free to contact the church or a pastor to get more information.
  • What does First Lutheran believe? We are a Christian church and share faith in the Triune God with many of our Christian siblings around the world. As a Lutheran Church, and a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, we are particularly keyed into God's grace given to all as a gift, without any work on our part. This is good news!

Whatever your plans are this season, God grant you a Merry Christmas and Blessed New Year!
