New to First Lutheran?
If you are seeking a sanctuary for the season, we would be honored to welcome you to First Lutheran this Christmas. Here is a brief guide to gathering with us:
Am I welcome at First Lutheran?
Yes! We believe the Good News of Jesus is a gift for all people. We hope you will be inspired by the message, warmed by the welcome, and glad that you gathered with us. You are fully and freely welcome at First Lutheran!
What should I know about visiting?
When you arrive, look for our landmark mosaic of Jesus with arms raised in welcome. Park near the Mission CoffeeHouse or the main office doors, where accessible spaces await for a shorter stroll. Step inside, and our greeters will warmly welcome you, guide you to the sanctuary, and offer a bulletin to navigate the service. Feel free to pick up a devotional, introduce yourself to someone new, or simply sit in silence and prepare to encounter the story of Christmas.
What should I know about online worship?
Whether you stream it live or watch it later, you can find our worship services on our website or Facebook page. We love to know when you are worshipping with us, so share a comment and let us share a greeting!
What are worship services like?
Our Christmas services are about sixty minutes long. They are filled with familiar carols, fervent prayers, flickering candles, and blessings for all. We invite the congregation to sing and speak, to stand and sit, but we know not everyone is up for full participation. Stand when you are able, sit when you need to, and participate precisely as you are comfortable.
Is there a dress code?
Absolutely not! From holiday finery to comfortable flannels, we want you to feel at home, and we welcome you however you are dressed.
What about my children?
Children of every age are welcome and valued in worship. Each service features a special message just for kids, who are invited to come down front. We know that children squirm and speak, exactly as God made them to do! We welcome the wiggles and the wonder. If your child needs a break, you are free to step out as you see fit. We offer activity bags for young worshippers, and a staffed nursery for children under three.
What about Communion?
We take the sacrament seriously, and therefore we insist that the table is open to all who want to receive it. That includes the visiting and the veteran, the certain and the searching, the devout and the doubtful. To be clear: it includes you and your family. You will hear simple instructions during the service on how to participate. Visiting with a pastor beforehand is not required, but if you would like to connect, feel free to reach out to the church office.
What does First Lutheran believe?
We share faith in the Triune God alongside our Christian siblings across the globe. As a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, our heartbeat is grace: God's love given as a gift, not earned by an effort. And that is undeniably good news!
Whatever your plans are this season, may God grant you a Merry Christmas and a brightly blessed New Year!
