1Built on a rock the church shall stand, even when steeples are falling; crumbled have spires in ev'ry land, bells still are chiming and calling-calling the young and old to rest, calling the souls of those distressed, longing for life everlasting.
2Surely, in temples made with hands God the Most High is not dwelling-high in the heav'ns his temple stands, all earthly temples excelling. Yet God who dwells in heav'n above deigns to abide with us in love, making our bodies his temple.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the love of God,
and the communion of the Holy Spirit
be with you all.
And also with you.
1Glory to you, God, for yours is the earth; yours is the promise, the blessing, the birth. Ours the rejoicing for Word given frame; ours the thanksgiving to your holy name. Ours be the telling of deeds greatly done; yours be the glory, God, yours alone.
2Glory to you, God, for yours is the earth; yours the hosannas, the dying, rebirth. Ours the rejoicing for nature reclaimed; ours the thanksgiving to your holy name. Ours be the telling of deeds greatly done; yours be the glory, God, yours alone.
3Glory to you, God, for yours is the earth; yours the anointing, the radiant worth. Ours the rejoicing for spirits aflame; ours the thanksgiving to your holy name. Ours be the telling of deeds greatly done; yours be the glory, God, yours alone.
Let us pray…
Amen.
Word of God, word of life.
Thanks be to God.

1God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
2Therefore we will not fear, though the earth be moved, and though the mountains shake in the depths of the sea;
3though its waters rage and foam, and though the mountains tremble with its tumult.
4There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High.
5God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be shaken; God shall help it at the break of day.
6The nations rage, and the kingdoms shake; God speaks, and the earth melts away.
7The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold.
8Come now, regard the works of the Lord, what desolations God has brought upon the earth;
9behold the one who makes war to cease in all the world; who breaks the bow, and shatters the spear, and burns the shields with fire.
10"Be still, then, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth."
11The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold.
Congregation sings Alleluias, Cantor sings Verse
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
Lord, to whom shall we go?
You have the words of eternal life.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
The holy gospel according to John.
Glory to you, O Lord.
The gospel is read.
The gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, O Christ.
1A mighty fortress is our God, a sword and shield victorious; he breaks the cruel oppressor's rod and wins salvation glorious. The old satanic foe has sworn to work us woe! With craft and dreadful might he arms himself to fight. On earth he has no equal.
2No strength of ours can match his might! We would be lost, rejected. But now a champion comes to fight, whom God himself elected. You ask who this may be? The Lord of hosts is he! Christ Jesus, mighty Lord, God's only Son, adored. He holds the field victorious.
3Though hordes of devils fill the land all threat'ning to devour us, we tremble not, unmoved we stand; they cannot overpower us. Let this world's tyrant rage; in battle we'll engage! His might is doomed to fail; God's judgment must prevail! One little word subdues him.
4God's Word forever shall abide, no thanks to foes, who fear it; for God himself fights by our side with weapons of the Spirit. Were they to take our house, goods, honor, child, or spouse, though life be wrenched away, they cannot win the day. The kingdom's ours forever!
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ,
God's only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated
at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come
to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
…Hear us, O God.
Your mercy is great.
…through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

If you but trust in God to guide you, with hopeful heart through all your ways, you will find strength, with God beside you, to hear the worst of evil days; For those who trust God's changeless love, built on the Rock that will not move.
What gain is there in futile weeping, in helpless anger and distress? If you are in God's care and keeping, in sorrow will God love you less? For Christ who took for you a cross will bring you safe through ev'ry loss.
Be still, be still, and wait God's pleasure in cheerful hope, with heart content, trusting that grace which knows no measure will by unbounded Love be sent; not doubt our inmost wants are clear, to One who holds us always near.
Sing, pray, and keep God's ways unswerving; offer your service faithfully, and trust God's word, though undeserving, there find the truth to set you free; God will not fail to guide and bless those who embrace God's faithfulness.
Your gifts support the mission and ministry of First Lutheran Church.
Thank You!
4Yet in this house, an earthly frame, Jesus the children is blessing; hither we come to praise his name, faith in our Savior confessing. Jesus to us his Spirit sent, making with us his covenant, granting his children the kingdom.

Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
It is indeed right...and join their unending hymn:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of pow'r and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna, hosanna in the highest.
Hosanna, hosanna in the highest.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.
1My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness; no merit of my own I claim, but wholly lean on Jesus' name.
RefrainOn Christ, the solid rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand.
2When darkness veils his lovely face, I rest on his unchanging grace; in ev'ry high and stormy gale my anchor holds within the veil.
3His oath, his covenant, his blood sustain me in the raging flood; when all supports are washed away, he then is all my hope and stay.
4When he shall come with trumpet sound, oh, may I then in him be found, clothed in his righteousness alone, redeemed to stand before the throne!
Text: Edward Mote, 1797-1874, alt.
Music: MELITA, John B. Dykes, 1823-1876
1Salvation unto us has come by God's free grace and favor; good works cannot avert our doom, they help and save us never. Faith looks to Jesus Christ alone, who did for all the world atone, our only mediator.
2What God did in the law demand no one could keep unfailing; great woe arose on ev'ry hand, and sin grew all-prevailing. Because the law must be fulfilled, Christ came as God in mercy willed, for us the law obeying.
3Since Christ has full atonement made and brought to us salvation, we will rejoice, we will be glad and build on this foundation. Your grace alone, dear Lord, I plead; baptized into your death, I'm freed; your life is mine forever.
4Faith clings to Jesus' cross alone and rests in him unceasing; and by its fruits true faith is known, with love and hope increasing. For faith alone can justify; works serve our neighbor and supply the proof that faith is living.

1The church of Christ, in ev'ry age beset by change, but Spirit-led, must claim and test its heritage and keep on rising from the dead.
2Across the world, across the street, the victims of injustice cry for shelter and for bread to eat, and never live before they die.
3Then let the servant church arise, a caring church that longs to be a partner in Christ's sacrifice, and clothed in Christ's humanity.
4For he alone, whose blood was shed, can cure the fever in our blood, and teach us how to share our bread and feed the starving multitude.
5We have no mission but to serve in full obedience to our Lord; to care for all, without reserve, and spread his liberating word.
